Fuck George. He's the gambler standing at the entrance to Nellis Air Force Base. Behind him: nothing but craters and bombed-out houses. The Boomers control this area, a community that protects itself by shelling anyone who gets in range, but I need to get in and George knows how to get past the bombs. He wants 200 bottlecaps for his services.
This is the world of Fallout: New Vegas. It's harsh. Hell, I only have 200 caps because I killed the doctor who saved my life and scooped a bullet out my brain. So when George demands these caps for doing little more than standing on a path, while I've had to slam pool cues into the skulls of helpful medics, it upsets me.

I hand them over, as I can't see any other way in. After a terrifying bolt through a barrage of bombs, following George's instructions, I make it to the compound. The Boomers are surprisingly cool, if a bit overprotective. They agree to not shell me any more, which is nice of them. I find it difficult to blow up people I've met socially, too. I head back to George. It's not just his opportunism that angers me. He offered to repay me double the amount of caps if I survived. I'm his dirty little gambling fix!
I grab my spiked knuckles and start whaling on him. Every punch makes me feel a little bit better. He runs off into Nellis and I run after him. The Boomers promised to leave me alone, but George? He's fair game.
As is anything in his radius. Bombs are indiscriminate jerks. I only realise my huge mistake when he reels at one of my uppercuts and I explode a second later.
I should have known better. New Vegas might be cleaner than Fallout 3's Washington wasteland, the Mojave desert having got off relatively lightly during the nuclear apocalypse, but it's still a game about survival. Shot in the head, buried and presumed dead, you're caught up in a revenge tale that turns into a battle for control of the region, with you in the Clint Eastwood role. Do you track down the man who put you in the ground, explore the desert, beat up some nearby gang members, or look for a faction to join?
Fallout New VegasCrafty Buck
What would Clint do? Or, in my game, an athletic, red-headed lady I named 'Buck'. Lady Buck, I decided, was simply going to be an extension of me. If I found the people I was dealing with personally repugnant, I'd give them Wasteland justice. I plumbed for my usual mix of lockpicking and stealth skills, eventually regretting my Thief-centric approach to character creation. My advice: New Vegas is so skewed towards dialogue that, for the first run-through at least, you should put as much as you can in Speechcraft and Barter skills. Even the final bosses can be chatted into submission if your stats are high enough. You can't lockpick a mouth. Oh, and you should probably avoid Hardcore mode for that first runthrough. It's the triathlon of New Vegas, a gruelling slog designed to sap your strength as you play. It's not for the ill-prepared.
Wandering the wasteland now, two years on from Fallout 3, I'm both happy and disappointed. I've long wanted more of the same from Bethesda, and this is the hand that New Vegas deals. But while it's good to be back, the leap from one game to the other isn't nearly as large as it should have been. New areas, characters and factions, but the same clunky inventory and character models. Two years to stay exactly where you were.
Fallout's world of cracked asphalt and rolling deserts can still impress. Whacking the view distance up to max is chilling: futuro-'50s buildings poke into the air, a giant wireframe cross stands on a hill, and at night Vegas glows on the horizon.
The world goes about its business, delivering some amazing random encounters. After a save, I stumbled across two small gangs fighting it out. I leapt into the fray – mostly to try out my newly acquired rebar club: a lump of concrete on the end of twisted metal rods. Combat is still lightweight: swinging kilos of concrete at someone's head only feels powerful when they explode in a shower of gristle at the end, or in VATS where you're given choices of where to hit with different chances of success. My rebar broke the face of the Powder Ganger's leader, leaving a ragged red lump where her smile used to be. I reloaded, and this time sat back, watching the battle play out. At one point, a Ganger limped off to safety and pulled out a Stimpack, healing himself.
The central story is a big improvement on the dad-quest of Fallout 3. You're following the trail of the man who shot you, as it snakes across the Mojave through the major urban areas, drip-feeding you tasks that vary from sorting out a town's escaped prisoner problem to a ghoul infestation with a brilliantly overthe- top ending. Scenarios and characters that I'm loath to go into detail over, as their tricky little problems should be experienced first-hand. Twisty moral conundrums are laid at your feet as you pick and choose who to piss off (and you'll always piss someone off). When a game asks you to lead someone into a sniper's line of fire, but doesn't specify who, you definitely have to confront your id.
It's not overtly encouraged by the game, but you can just head for Vegas. Giant Rad Scorpions and Deathclaws stand between you and The Strip, and you'll end up aggroing every one of them, but you're given impressive leeway to just stumble across points of the story as you wander. But eventually, all roads lead to New Vegas.
It's here that a surprising second act kicks off. Structurally things get messy: you're used as an emissary from Vegas to talk to the factions. While there you can take up more missions, or simply report back to Vegas without having much to do with them at all – pretty much invalidating the entire endeavour. Don't do that. The factions are interesting, particularly the Caesars: a vast army with nasty predilections, based on the Roman Empire. They crucify people, for Jupiter's sake. Even the lesser factions, like the Elvis-impersonating Kings or the mafia-inspired Omerta, have been teased out of Vegas tropes.
King Rex
There's something for everyone, different personalities and points of view to empathise with or despise, depending on how you're playing. So the Romans felt my wrath, and I helped the leader of the Kings fix his robot dog (by bashing in another dog's head to replace the brain). My reward was having the dog as a companion. There are eight companions to pick from, six human and two not, and you can have one of each if you find them. They back you up in fights, and you can set their state via a control wheel, but the most important addition is they bring a perk to your character sheet. Rex's perk will find and mark nearby items for you to collect. I could have swapped him for ED-E, a floating robot who's good for spotting people and fighting from afar, but Rex, with his glowing skullcap, was too cute. I was on a 'nice' playthrough.
But I could so easily have played nasty, and aligned with the Romans. Or ambivalent and aligned with the NCR – the other main faction and strangely likeable people, just doing what they can to survive. Those choices, and the wonderful way the game accepts and adapts when you make them, make New Vegas worth your time and money. I had a lot of fun, but I never uncovered anything as wonderful as Fallout 3's Oasis or Little Lamplight.
There are things to see, sure, but the rewards aren't nearly as interesting in New Vegas. I didn't get as much out of heading for intriguing things on the horizon as I did in the previous game. With some new technology and the ambition to create a full world as compelling as the previous game's, it could have been wonderful.

So, I'm heading out of Novac, towards REPCONN after picking up Come Fly With Me, as naive as a New Vegas gambler with 7s in his eyes. My opponents thus far were easily dealt with by a swift .357 to the face or some careful sniping. I spy what I think to be the dump truck asset, and as I dash over to investigate, more equipment loads in, and then raiders load in. My panicked VATS identifies them as 'Jaguars', a name I don't recognize and certainly not from this area, but I assume they're from Factions Reloaded: Raiders. Thing is, these guys are well equipped. Like, REALLY well equipped. The commander isn't wearing Reinforced Leather Armor or Metal Armor, no, he's wearing fucking Enclave Power Armor, and most of his lackeys sport a full Combat Armor set. Their weapons? No joke either. A Plasma Rifle, a Trail Carbine, a Chainsaw, and a Sniper Rifle deck their armory. I lure the Commander out into a fight of tactical backpedaling, where I lure him towards Novac, sniping with my Cowboy Repeater or mortar striking him from outcroppings with an Incinerator. Down to a few slivers of health, I get him to the shack right on the outskirts, which he seems to stick around. Literally running around in circles, I play a game of peekabo with a Plasma Pistol, dumping a few rounds into him and then turning and booking it back around the building to catch him off guard again. I finally down him, the damage being most of my AID section, 100-200.. pieces? Charges? Chunks? of Flamer Fuel, lots of .357, and all of my Over Charge energy cells. I planned to use his Sniper Rifle to try and nail some of the recruits from afar, but my low level kneecaps me, my low guns skill (of about ~20) making my aim so wobbly all the world's Steady couldn't fix it. Back to the old reliables, I track back down the Jaguar Elite and Jaguar Bone Crusher, downing them with more .357 and SEC. Now considerably more protected from a set of Combat Armor in fairly good nick, I set out towards the camp to clean out the stragglers. Battle soon breaks out in the bumpy hills near Helios One against a Jaguar Gang Member and two Recruits. While weak enemies, the geography played hell with my ability to keep track of them, and a lot of the work was done by Incinerator carpet-bombing. Them finally cleared out, I advance towards the camp proper to find another surprise waiting to turn me into oatmeal, a 'Jaguar Bezerker' equipped with a shiny (well, dull) set of Black Combat Armor, a Chainsaw, and a Mohawk. Doing the same I did with the Commander, I lure him out pouring .357 into him all the way. After a temporary handicap from a VATS glitch, I finish him off, taking his Chainsaw and Black Combat Armor for my own. Here our story ends, with my now level 7 character possessing many, many pounds of way too high-end equipment that he has no way to store (house mod here I come).

Factions Reloaded - Followers of the Apocalypse is out! Check it out: http://newvegas.nexu..om/mods/53041/?
So I just wanted to let everyone know that Factions Reloaded - Followers of the Apocalypse is in full production. It will include a new town, lots of new quests, characters, npcs, battles, etc. and will aim to make the 'Followers of the Apocalypse' a real faction instead of just some people you can help out by giving a bunch of stimpaks to.
I need voice actors, but that won't be until later on in the future. I also need beta testers and people who can take high-quality screenshots. This mod will be a much higher-quality mod than the others, as during those two I was pretty inexperienced. Don't expect it for a while though, as school and work are both colliding and making the modding process very difficult.
Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Also if you want to collaborate please let me know.
Completion progress: ~99% completed.
I will be putting some screenshots up to show the progress, but as the rest of them they won't be very high quality. Once again if you can run Fallout on high settings, please let me know. I need some screen-shotters and if you want to be a beta tester please comment here and let me know.
VOICE ACTORS NEEDED:
(NEW)Susan
Age 30ish
Fallout New Vegas Factions Reloaded
'There isn't really a 'perfect' area to help. No matter where you go there will always be people in need, and we're trying our best.'
(NEW)Edward
![]()
Age 25ish
Accent: Somewhat southern, but mostly hidden.
'I'm Edward. Originally I was from California, but I moved out here to help others. It's really nice to actually be able to see the difference.'
'It's like my mama always said. You can't help everyone, but you might as well try.'
Mike: (Done)
Jacob: (Done)
Liz: (Done)
Alex: (Done)
Dr. Hernandez: A doctor who believes that life is the most important thing there is
Age: late 40s, early 50s
Voice type: Soft, calming
'I'm doctor Hernandez. I feel that everyone should have a chance to survive, no matter what they've done. I hope you feel the same way.'
'My parents always taught me to help everyone. Helping others is what I do best, and the refugees here need all the help they can get.'
Chase: The cook for the refugees in New Dayglow.
Age: 30s
Voice type: Normal
'I'm Chase. I'm supposedly the chef here, although I don't really do much other than hand out old boxes of dandy apples and 200 year old steak.'
Josiah: (Done)
10/8/13 Update:
Liz is completely done. Voiced, lip synched, etc.
Most character's dialogue is completed, but none of the other ones are voiced yet. Please let me know if you want to be a voice actor for this mod!
Most locations are completed. I just need to add a little bit to the marauder's camp, and make it a little bit more completed looking.
10/2/13 Update: I'll be starting Alpha testing soon. Please comment here if you want to join!
Working on a new faction, the Marauders. They'll have about 15 members and their leader is very interested in everything that happened before the war. They'll be tied into at least one or two quests.
Adding a motel that is being converted into a massive refugee camp with a LOT of new interiors.
Working on a small outpost in freeside. The followers already have a big presence in freeside, so I want other people's opinions on what to do in that area.
9/24/13 Update: So far I'm about 40-50% completed with the small town I'm adding near the Bitter Springs Campground. It currently has 4 buildings: The common area, the medical facility and the storage area which are finished, as well as the mess hall/refugee barracks (unfinished).
It is very near an NCR/Legion battle from the Factions Reloaded - Legion mod, but I'm not too sure how that will turn out in the long run. It shouldn't be the end of the world, as a small town in that area would be the prime spot for some battles, whether or not they wanted it (similar to boulder city).
It currently holds around 20-30 npcs, most of which being guards, refugees, and a few doctors. There are currently 3 quests (two finished), and I plan to add at least one more before moving on to the next location. The plan is to get at least 3 or 4 of these small communities (most will be much smaller than this one) scattered around the wastes before moving ahead to other things like changes to the game, anything in Mormon Fort or freeside, etc.

Hello all, now Fallout New Vegas is one of my favorite games of all time. 500 hours and I'm still finding new things to do in this game.
I actually didn't mind all the flaws that this game had when I first played.. However.. ever since I started modding like crazy, I realized that I was disappointed in the whole game and the whole bethesda-obsidian shenanigans.
I did some research on how the game would of turned out and constantly thought about 'Man.. if obisidan had a few more years this would have been the greatest RPG of all time!'
So I went crazy and searched deep into the Nexus to find mods that help my fallout new vegas turn into the game it should have been.. and I would like to share a different type of mod list to my favorite subreddit.
First off New Vegas Uncut SeriesGet it here These mods readds the cut content prior to release. These are essential. Get them.
Note:If you add freeside open, do not install van graffs, rotface, and pacer's gambit.
The NCR Now the NCR in my opinion does not really need many mods to improve as they are literally all over the damn map and have a full story along with the pros and cons.
[NCR Rearmament](http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/40139/?]
This Mod overhauls the NCR troops into a futuristic world-police-esque faction. Since FNV is set in the future, I think it would make sense to have futuristic armor. This is once of the early concept arts of the NCR.
OR
You can use NCR Trooper Overhaul then use this to distribute them to the wasteland.
I use this instead of NCR Rearmament because I like the variety.
Now Caesar's Legion
Oh boy. now this REALLY needed a huge overhaul. This faction seemed the most interesting to me and it had the 'funnest' missions in my opinion (the assassination?). It is sad how Obsidian couldn't find the time to finish up and create more ways to sympathize with the legion. Ulysses was supposed to be in the non-dlc game to serve as a companion that gives you a reason to sympathize with the legion. After actually listening to why Vulpes Inculta massacred Nipton, why Caesar thinks the NCR is weak and why he does the things he does, and Cass's thoughts on the good things of the legion, I wanted to find mods that would have the legion likeable and active. And FYI, it isn't just women who were enslaved, but men too. I also dislike this and think it is a huge reason that people hate the legion, but think of it as a way to keep that the legion keeps the women alive. The legion needs them, just as America needed women back in WW2.
Caesar's New Regime This may not be lore friendly, but the vanilla legion does not seem intimidating at all. It makes me wonder how they almost won the first battle of Hoover Dam with football gear and a bunch of scraps. This mod makes the legion soldiers a little more. memorable. Also a better legion safehouse along with a companion that gives you a few more reasons to side with the legion.
Factions Reloaded - Legion I've have encountered a couple of people complain about how the east side of the map is empty. Well, this mod adds new legion quests, new bases, and fights between the NCR and The Legion to show that the Legion really is closing in on the west.
Increased Legion Presence Like the title, it adds more legion bases.
Legion-Brotherhood alliance I think the option to have the BoS as allies with the legion was cut, so this mod adds the option to not destroy the BoS
Legion Commander I just added this in case I have successfully persuaded you to do a legion playthrough. This mod lets you command units that will help you kill some profligates and raid bases.
The Strip
Well now, if only Obsidian had more time we probably would of had THIS, THIS, or THIS. A whole entire fucking city globdammit! Not just a literal STRIP of las vegas! sighNew Vegas Restoration
This mod cleans up the strip and adds a fortification in the front, a south gate, and various buildings in the strip which kind of gives you the feeling of a city. DO NOT USE THIS WITH THE STRIP OPEN as it already does remove the loading screen gates.
I know that this isn't lore friendly, but I add it just as a backdrop/decoration to the strip to give it a city like feeling.
Fallout New Vegas Faction Quiz
If the strip is supposed to be the greatest place in the mojave wasteland then why the hell are the damn places empty? This mod adds.. more npc's in the casinos.
Now if you don't like the lag of the two previous mods and prefer using just the strip open, then use this or this which adds another gate to the entrance of new vegas.
![]()
Now for the inhabitants of the wasteland
Tired of seeing the same clothing over and over and over again? Look no further! The spice of life adds a variety of clothing to the wasteland! No longer will you have 7 sets of fully repaired merc clothing.
rePOPULATED WASTELAND This may not be lore friendly, but judging from this concept art shows a couple people traveling. This mod adds some settlements and more npc's in existing settlements.
This mod changes the faces of certain individuals with great details. Must I say more? Just look at this shit
And if you want an overhaul of an overhaul use New Vegas Redesigned 3 which also adds details of NPC's that tells you their story based on their appearances. For example, in one of the dead bodies inside the Nipton town hall has a girl who is stripped naked and killed on a table; obviously that tells you that powder gangers raped and killed her. Brutal stuff.
The NPC Projects These are a series of mods that adds various objects to settlements and decorations.
Note: I do not think that NPC Project - Freeside is compatible with freeside open. It won't crash, but you will find half of the citizens of freeside under freeside.
So here is my list of mods. Please feel free to add some to expand the list.
